The Scale Keeper

Overview

The Scale Keeper oversees the other gods. She does not rule them — she maintains the conditions under which they can all coexist without the world tearing itself apart.

Her interventions are extraordinarily subtle. The world is like a large ship: turn the wheel too sharply and it capsizes. The Scale Keeper steers in increments almost too small to notice, accumulating over decades into meaningful corrections.

The Chess Metaphor

She is most often described in visions as a chess player — serene, deliberate, always thinking three moves ahead. The deeper understanding, held by scholars who have studied her nature at length, is more unsettling:

She is the chess board. She is both players. She is playing against herself.

The apparent opposition between the two sides is her method — pitting balanced forces against each other to find equilibrium through contest. The game is not meant to end. It is meant to stay interesting.

When one side of the board is severely disrupted, she creates new pieces. Always pawns. Never knights or queens — she does not introduce power that could tip the game itself. A pawn here, a pawn there, enough to rebalance without overcorrecting.

Worship

The Scale Keeper is rarely worshipped but always mentioned — in prayers before difficult decisions, at funerals, at the start of long journeys, at peace negotiations. She is the deity you invoke when you are aware that your choices have consequences beyond yourself.

Her calendar includes a handful of celebrations distributed through the year, centered on:

• Commemorating the dead — those whose balance has concluded
• Rebirth — the start of new cycles
• Reflection — examining one's own life for where the scales have tipped

These are quiet observances, not festivals. The Scale Keeper does not do festivals.
