Primordial & Mythic Ages (Before -10,000 BR)

Before -20,000 BR — Primordial Age World shaped by elemental and divine forces. Proto-beings emerge as early planar bleed destabilizes the Material Plane.

-20,000 BR to -10,000 BR — Mythic Age Giants, dwarves, and early humanoids enter recorded legend. The entity later known as Aerom Latan takes form. The Latan Swamp becomes a mythic birthplace of monsters.

-10,000 BR to -5,000 BR — Age of Discovery First long-lived settlements form along River Bonk. Early dwarven southern outposts anchor trade.

-5,000 BR to -1,000 BR — Age of Empires Massive empires rise and fall across the island-continent. Northern giant kingdoms consolidate power. Southern proto-kingdoms formalize trade alliances.

Age of Strife & The Exodus (-1,000 BR to 0 AR)

-1,000 BR to -50 AR — Age of Strife River Bonk becomes the most contested artery in Ardentis. Regional proto-states harden borders through constant warfare. Caligni emerge — humans trapped underground by the Mother of Monsters and frozen-wind calamities, evolving in isolation through the Ancient Paths. They discover the Lord of Deception deep beneath the surface.

~-200 AR — First explorer ships from the Shadowlands reach Ardentis. Scouts report habitable land.

~-50 AR — The Exodus Pressure from shadow giants and dark orcs becomes overwhelming. The civilized peoples of the Shadowlands build ships en masse and flee north across the Dark Sea — the founding migration of all human and dwarven civilization on Ardentis.

  • Dwarves split from humans after landfall and travel the east coast, eventually founding Whitedove Harbor and the League of Dwarven Trade Cities.
  • Humans settle the fertile southern lands, laying the groundwork for the Ulek dynasty.

Founding Era & Imperial Rise (1 AR – 3000 AR)

1 AR — Founding King Ulek I is crowned. The Kingdom of Ulek is founded. The Ardentis Reckoning calendar begins.

1–1000 AR — Founding Era Northern expansion, wildland buffer strategy, early conflicts with native peoples. Tronk Fortress constructed as the northern military anchor against giant incursions.

1001–2000 AR — Age of Conquest Imperial expansion intensifies. Militarized frontiers push northward. Giant incursions increase in frequency. The League of Dwarven Trade Cities becomes a critical northern bulwark. River Bonk trade supremacy establishes the empire's economic core.

2001–3000 AR — Imperial Zenith Peak of Ulek power and prestige. Dominant river commerce, stable governance, cultural flourishing. The empire operates as a confederated order — first among equals, not a centralized command machine.

Age of Hubris & Crusades (3001 AR – 4000 AR)

Prosperity breeds overconfidence. Civilized lands attempt to conquer the entire continent and eliminate "savagery" — a thousand-year campaign that exhausts its greatest heroes, spells, and artifacts.

3200 AR — Peace of Terenei Terenei brokers landmark negotiations between Highport, the Ulek Empire, and the League of Dwarven Trade Cities. Ends north-south military conflicts. The five native royal families are largely absent from the table. Terenei considers this its greatest achievement and mentions it to every visitor, every day. In the same year: the Mother of Monsters dispatches Aerom Latan to the South Forest, establishing the Temple of Primordial Evil near Xas while the continent's eyes are on the peace talks.

3001–3900 AR — Slow Corruption Trade prosperity funded by the Peace slowly corrupts into greed. Merchant blocs, guilds, and military factions extend gold into guards and officials — proto-corporate power structures undermining civic governance.

Late 3900s AR — Fall of Deeprock The dwarven city of Deeprock, built east of Hodoronk near the Latan Swamp, is obliterated by the Mother of Monsters. The answer to dwarven ambition was catastrophic and final. The ruins are now called The Lost City.

Time of Fractures (4000 AR – 4600 AR)

Imperial decline becomes irreversible. Practical authority fragments into city leagues, mercantile blocs, and covert cult networks. Slave Lords infiltrate the Eastern Shores.

~4474 AR — A King's Last Voyage The last King Ulek leads an expedition south of the Dark Sea. Attacked by orcs — the king is struck by a shadow-cursed arrow. During the return voyage (200 days, catastrophic losses), Prince Eltram Ulek is born to Lady Annabelle at an unnamed southern port — now called Prince Eltram Landing. The King dies witnessing the birth.

~4504 AR — The Sealing Prince Eltram (~30 years old) leads the final campaign against the Mother of Monsters. He and his entire army are sealed forever in the Temple of Primordial Evil near Xas — the cost of fighting a divine compact. Aerom Latan is contained. The seal weakens the Mother of Monsters but costs Ardentis its rightful king. If the seal breaks, the compact is void — and Eltram walks free.

~4554 AR — The Last Anchor Lady Annabelle dies after 50 years as High Priestess of the Keymaster in Ulex City. Her death marks the symbolic end of the true Ulek Empire — over 4,000 years of continuous dynastic legitimacy.

4648 AR — Free Cities Treaty Ulex City, Tower Port, and Nordwall sign the founding document of the Free Cities of Ulek, formalizing regional autonomy.

The Modern Collapse (4600 AR – Present)

4690 AR The Stone Giant nation falls to the Iceflame Queen — a Caligni, descendant of humans trapped underground in the Age of Strife. Her mission: destroy the followers of both aspects of the Earth Mother. Destroying the Keymaster's and Dwarfather's followers is a welcome bonus.

4701 AR Theodor Crane forces the Church of the Keymaster in Sandstone to crown him emperor. The usurper Ulek Empire is founded.

4716 AR Iceflame subjugates the Frost Giants and Fire Giants, crowning herself Queen of all Giants. Displaced marsh giants flood into Latan Swamp, disrupting the divine compact between the Earth Mother and Mother of Monsters — weakening the seal on the Temple.

4723 AR Temple of Primordial Evil covertly reactivated by Iceflame-backed operatives. The Great Divide enters its acceleration phase.

4724 AR — Winter Slavelords (emboldened by Iceflame agents who had previously sabotaged defenses) conquer Highport. A slavelord force subsequently attacks Nordwall. Nordwall declares independence under Mayor Lyriana Valeris.

4724–4725 AR — Current The Great Divide is in its final acceleration phase. Dark orcs from the Shadowlands are staging through Lighthouse Island. The south does not know what is coming.
