Overview
Lighthouse Island is a small island off the southwestern coast of Ardentis, sitting between the southern shore and the Dark Sea. Its primary function has always been navigational: ships crossing toward or returning from the Dark Sea use its lighthouse as a bearing point. It has never been militarily significant, never been fortified beyond the lighthouse and its keeper's station, and has never needed to be.
That is the problem.
Current State (4724–4725)
Noria's dark orcs from the Shadowlands are staging through Lighthouse Island in the winter of 4724–4725. The island's proximity to the Ardentis coast and its complete lack of defenses made it the obvious first foothold. The lighthouse still functions — no one on the mainland knows the island has been compromised.
The south is unprepared. Sandstone Harbor is close and equally unprepared. The usurper Ulek Empire does not have a coherent response to a dark orc invasion and has produced no evidence of noticing one is coming.
Why It Matters
A staging ground on Lighthouse Island gives the dark orc force a position from which to strike the southern coast without warning. The Dark Sea crossing is difficult but navigable in the direction they're coming from — Noria's forces have been doing it in controlled numbers. Once the staging is complete, the timing of the actual assault becomes a strategic choice rather than a logistical constraint.
