Theodor Crane
| Role | Usurper Emperor of Ulek |
| Base | Sandstone |
| Active Since | 4701 AR |
| Faction | Usurper Ulek Empire |
Overview
Theodor Crane seized power in 4701 AR by forcing the Church of the Keymaster in Sandstone to crown him emperor. This was not a military conquest — it was institutional coercion applied to a church caught between doctrine and survival. Crane understood that in the Ulek system, coronation legitimacy flows through the Keymaster's clergy. He secured the clergy. He secured the crown.
The act split the Church of the Keymaster permanently. Both factions — Crane's Sandstone chapter and the Ulex City chapter — now argue that their duty to the Keymaster requires them to serve the legitimate political leadership of their region. Since they disagree on what legitimate means, the schism holds.
What He Represents
Crane is the most direct expression of what happens when the Empire of Ulek's confederated structure collapses without a legitimate heir. Someone will always fill the vacuum. Crane filled it efficiently, using the tools the system provided: institutional leverage, clergy dependency, and the symbolic weight of coronation in a world where symbols still govern armies.
Whether he rules well or poorly, wisely or corruptly, is the Open Canon Question.
