Nature

The Depths Beyond is not a god in the conventional sense — it does not have followers, doctrine, or a theology. It is an ancient entity that occupies the deep ocean and has no interest in civilizations beyond what falls into its reach.

It sinks ships. It hides things. It hoards whatever it collects in the dark — artifacts, bodies, sunken cargo, things lost at sea across thousands of years. It does not plan against the other divine powers or participate in their conflicts. It simply exists at the bottom of things and takes what comes down.

It is not affiliated with Noria or The Destroyer, despite all three being associated with darkness and the south. The Dark Sea's hostility to navigation is its territory, not theirs.

The Dark Sea

The waters between Ardentis and the Shadowlands are The Depths Beyond's most active domain. Storms, sea monsters, crushing darkness, and the general hostility of the open water in that region are its ambient presence. Ships that cross the Dark Sea are not specifically targeted — they are simply in its water, and it does not distinguish.

The Last King Ulek's catastrophic return voyage — 200 days where a 90-day trip was expected, with most of the fleet lost — is typical of what crossing The Depths Beyond's territory costs.

Kethonis (Month 12)

The final month of the year. Deep winter. The sea at its worst. Old sailors mark the month with quiet and avoid open water where possible. Prayers during Kethonis are not directed at The Depths Beyond — you do not pray to it — but are said against it: to other gods, asking for safe passage and the return of things lost.
