The Ardentis Calendar
The Ardentis calendar was not invented — it was revealed. Each of the twelve months arrived in visions distributed simultaneously across all faiths, in all regions, with no single church or culture able to claim authorship. Scholars debate whether the Scale Keeper engineered the moment or simply permitted it. The calendar is the one thing every religion on Ardentis holds in common.
Each month carries the name and influence of one divine entity. During that month, rituals performed at a locus aligned with the month's patron are enhanced — required casters fewer, checks lower, effects stronger. The power is subtle but real, and practitioners plan around it.
The Twelve Months
| # | Month | Patron | Domain |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arcivon | The Keymaster | Commerce, contracts, new ventures — the year begins under civilization's god |
| 2 | Calthen | Kenneth | Puzzles, invention, unpredictable weather — the trickster's month is rarely what it appears |
| 3 | Peranthas | The Scale Keeper | Balance, transition, the spring equinox — the only month where no god claims more than another |
| 4 | Golveth | The Earth Mother | Growth, animals, the land waking — nature is loudest in Golveth |
| 5 | Durnath | The Dwarfather | Labor, forging, the long crafting season — dwarven cities run double shifts |
| 6 | Solantis | The Light | Longest days, justice, pilgrimage — the roads fill with those seeking something |
| 7 | Embrath | The Flame | Summer peak, freedom, fire festivals — the eastern catfolk kingdoms celebrate loudest |
| 8 | Aberith | Aberum | Discipline, martial training, contemplation — monasteries observe silence for the full month |
| 9 | Rifthar | The Destroyer | Harvest anxiety, storms, the memory of the asteroid — old prayers still spoken against what fell |
| 10 | Luravar | Mother of Monsters | Dark nights, creatures active, the swamps restless — the flip side of Golveth. The 31st of Luravar is Allbirth — the Mother of Monsters' high holy day, when the gate at Level 4 of the Temple of Primordial Evil historically opened |
| 11 | Nocthar | The Lord of Deception | Shadows long, secrets easier to keep, nothing is quite what it presents — the Caligni's favored month |
| 12 | Kethonis | The Depths Beyond | Deep winter, the sea at its most hostile, things stir below the surface |
Kenneth
An accidental god. In approximately -6000 AR, a human explorer named Kenneth bypassed the defenses of an underground golem city built by a mechanical spirit that had manifested and imprisoned itself deep in the earth — in the territories between the Shadowlands and the northern swamps. Having solved what no one else had, Kenneth consumed the entity and ascended, apparently without intending to.
He now uses his divine influence to test mortals — elaborate puzzles, layered dungeons, impossible traps. His followers range from cruel to brilliant depending on how they interpret the lesson. He maintains a friendly rivalry with the Keymaster and gives the Destroyer a wide berth, aware that he is still a small power.
Aberum
A human monk from the eastern kingdoms who achieved godhood through pure discipline. Studying the ways of The Flame, he refined his body and mind to the point where he could manifest as spirit — creating presence where none should be possible, becoming an almost equal of the Flame itself. He appears to disciplined individuals across the world regardless of faith. Monasteries in every region observe his month.
The Lord of Deception regards Aberum's discipline as a potential weapon and has made attempts to co-opt his followers. Aberum knows this and is careful about who he reveals himself to.
